题目列表(包括答案和解析)
Although most people know there are Seven Wonders in the ancient world, only few people can name them. This is because most of them are no longer there except the pyramids(金字塔). However, there is a growing list of wonders of the world today. About nine years ago, UNESCO's World Culture and Nature Heritage (things that have come down to us from the past) List had 411 places and 136 countries were responsible to protect them, and the list keeps on growing.
Usually it is the task of a group of 21 experts to decide which places go on the list. The experts are chosen to work for six years. Their work is to examine and discuss the suggestions from different countries. They also manage the World Heritage Fund and have the right to decide what help to give to countries for protection work.
Over the past centuries a lot of cultural or historic places have been destroyed by man or nature. Protecting our natural and cultural heritage is a long and difficult task. Earthquakes, floods, pollution, wars or even tourism are some of the dangers that harm this heritage.
When a historic place is in great danger, it is put on the World Heritage's Danger List and necessary things will be done to protect it. Places which are on the danger list include Historic Bridges of Indiana, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Rosenwald School in Southern US, etc.

How to protect children web fans from unsuitable material on-line while encouraging them to use the Internet has long been discussed in the U.S.
For some parents, the Internet can seem like a jungle, filled with danger for their children. But jungles contain wonders as well as danger and with good guides, some education, and a few precautions(预防), the wilds of the Internet can be safely navigated(操纵).“Kids have to be on-line. If we tell our kids they can't be allowed to surf the Internet, we are cutting them from their future.”said an expert.
Most kids have started to use search engines(搜索引擎). Many of them are great for finding tons of interesting Internet sites, and they can also locate places where you might not want your kids to go. There are search engines designed just for kids. A certain software contains only sites that have been selected as safe. The most popular way would be to use what is known as a “content screener”. But this can't be wholly reliable, and the best thing parents can do is to talk to their kids and let them know what is OK or not OK to see or do on the Internet. Another way is that Mum or Dad is nearby when the child is surfing the Internet.
A few other tips:
Don't put the PC in a child's room but keep it in an area where Mum or Dad can keep an eye on things. That can also make the Inter net more of a family activity.
——Ask your child what he or she has been doing and about the friends they make on-line.
——Tell your child not to give on-line strangers personal information, especially like address and phone number.
——And tell your children never to talk to anyone they meet on-line over the phone, send them anything, accept anything from them or agree to meet with them unless you go along.
(1) The following are some good ways to protect children from improper(不合适的)material except ________
[ ]
A.to talk to the children and persuade them to tell right from wrong
B.to be nearby when they are surfing the Internet
C.to fix a“content screener”on the computer
D.to forbid the children to surf the Internet

B.Using a content screener is most reliable.
C.Searching engines designed just for kids can help children to select suitable material.
D.Children's not having chances to surf the Internet may have more advantages in their progress than those who surf the Internet.

Beginning college is exciting: new ideas to explore, new challenges to be met and many decisions to be made. Your future begins here.
However, you will find college life is different from your previous school environment. Many of us can be easily overwhelmed by the details of running a wellbalanced life. While some of us may have the knowhow,I guess there are more of us who can benefit from learning about the experiences of others who have walked the college halls before you.
The following you may find of use about life on campus.
● Plan well. There are so many new things to do at a new college or university. Give yourself time to make new friends and become familiar with the campus, but don’t forget why you are there. Give some time for social activities and manage your time wisely.
● If you don’t have a “system” for planning your time now (like a day timer,a computer date book),get one. Most of all, don’t depend on your memory.
● Don’t miss the guidelines. The restrictions, rules and regulations of all kinds can usually be found in your student’s handbook. Consider them wellbalanced food for thought. What dates are important? What pieces of paper need to be handed in? What can/ can’t you do in your student residence(住处)? Who has the right for what? What do you need to complete to graduate?
●Write the word “STUDY” on the walls of our bedroom and bathroom, and maybe it will help to write it on a piece of paper and stick it on the telephone,TV and the kitchen table. Consider this—you are paying thousands of dollars for your courses. You pay every time you have to repeat or replace a course.
● Build your identity. This is the time for you to decide what to do and what not to do. Take as much time as you need to explore new ideas. Do not be afraid of the beyond. This is learning to make good choices.

“Why should I care about the environment?” some people ask. There is a very simple reason: We live on the earth, and it is the only place we can live on right now, as we cannot live in space yet. If we treat the earth like a garbage dump, it will become dirty and unlivable. If we treat it well by being eco-conscious, the earth will stay clean and suitable for living, for ourselves and for our children.
What is “being eco-conscious”?
Being eco-conscious means being aware of your actions, and what you do to the environment. For example, you might think, “Using hairspray is great for fixing my hair.” However, if you are eco-conscious, you would ask, “Does this hairspray have CFCs in it? Could I be destroying the earth by using hairspray?”
How can I be eco-conscious?
You can find many simple ways to help the environment in your everyday life.
When you go shopping, bring a bag or a basket with you. Please try not to use plastic bags as much as you can.
You can go to work by bike or on foot if it is not far from your home.
You can put your rubbish into different bags, which makes it convenient for recycling.
You can eat less chewing gum.
You can use your own chopsticks instead of the disposable ones in your company or in restaurants.
You can put batteries in a special box instead of in garbage bins.
You can use the water which has been used for washing vegetables or fruits to clean the floor and the toilet or to water your garden.
You can turn off the decorative lights in your room when watching TV.
You can turn down your air conditioner by one degree, as this will cause a 10% reduction in energy use.
You can use recycled paper. Every ton of recycled office paper saves 380 gallons of oil. You can also use recycled glass instead of glass made from raw materials. This will reduce the related air pollution by 20%, and the related water pollution by 50%.
Please believe that. If you do a little, it will make a big difference.
