Many years ago,I owned a service station and roadhouse on the main road between Melbourne and Adelaide.

One very cold, wet night at about 3:30 a.m.,there was a ¡¡ 16¡¡ on the front door of our house.A young man,wet from ¡¡¡¡ 17¡¡¡¡ to toe, explained that he had ¡¡¡¡ 18¡¡¡¡ out of petrol about 30 km up the road.He had left his pregnant(»³ÔеÄ) wife and his two children ¡¡ 19¡¡ at the car and said that he would hitchhike(´î±ã³µ) back.

Once I had ¡¡ 20¡¡ a can with petrol,I took him back to his car where his two-year-old and four-year-old children were both ¡¡ 21 ,saying that they were cold.Once the car had started,I suggested that he ¡¡ 22¡¡ me back.

Before leaving,I had turned the heater ¡¡23¡¡ in the roadhouse,so that when we went in,it was nice and ¡¡ 24 .While the little ones played and ran ¡¡ 25¡¡ ,I prepared bread and butter for the children, and hot chocolate for the ¡¡26 .

It was about 5 a.m. before they ¡¡27 .The young fellow asked me how much he ¡¡ 28¡¡ me and I told him that the petrol pump(¼ÓÓͱÃ) had ¡¡ 29¡¡ $15.He offered to pay ¡°call-out fee¡±,but I wouldn¡¯t accept it.

About a month later,I received a ¡¡ 30¡¡ from Interstate,a large bus company that we bad been trying to ¡¡ 31¡¡ to stop off at our roadhouse for a long time.It ¡¡ 32¡¡ out that the young fellow I had helped was its general manager, the most ¡¡33 person in the company.

In his letter,he thanked me again and ¡¡ 34 me that, from then on,all their buses would stop at my service station. In this ¡¡ 35¡¡ ,a little bit of kindness was rewarded with a huge amount of benefits.

After getting married I moved to a flat. I felt pretty comfortable living there 16 something strange happened. I had a doll on the windowsill (´°Ì¨) facing the living room. One day, I came back home from work and found it was facing the window 17 . I thought it was my husband who played a ¡¡18 on me, but he did not admit. I 19 the doll to face the living room again.

The next day, the 20 thing happened. But this time, my husband was so 21 that I believed he had not done that. There was no ¡¡22 of anyone breaking into the house while we were away. And there was no reason to ¡¡23 that someone stole into the house just to turn the doll and left. What happened not only ¡¡24 us but also frightened us.

The doll kept turning every day ¡¡25 Saturdays and Sundays when I was at home. I began to wonder if there was a ghost.

Then ¡¡26 a school holiday, and I didn¡¯t go to work. While exercising in the living room, I 27 the doll was turning by itself! It was very frightening but I 28 knew why it was turning. There was a construction site right next to the building where I ¡¡29 . The construction was at the stage of pile driving (´ò×®) and our building shook ¡¡30 with each pounding (ÖØ»÷). 31 I lived on the top floor, the shaking was quite strong. ¡¡32 , the doll moved little by little with the shaking. This also 33 why the doll never turned on Saturdays and Sundays, 34 there was no construction work at weekends. If I had not been home on a weekday, I would never have 35 the truth.

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80s came to the hospital. I heard him saying to the nurse that he was in a hurry for an appointment£¨Ô¼»á£© at 9:30.

The nurse had him take a ¡¡26 in the waiting area, ¡¡27 him it would be at least 40 minutes ¡¡28 someone would be able to see him. I saw him ¡¡29 his watch and decided, since I was ¡¡30 busy ¨C my patient didn¡¯t ¡¡31 at the appointed hour ¨C I would examine his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor¡¯s appointment.

The gentleman said no and told me that he ¡¡32 to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his ¡¡33 . He told me that she had been ¡¡34 for a while and that she had a special disease. I asked if she would be ¡¡35 if he was a bit late. He replied that she ¡¡36 knew who he was, that she had not been able to ¡¡37 him for five years now. He smiled and said, ¡°She doesn¡¯t know me, but I know who she is.¡± I had to hold back ¡¡40¡¡ as he left.
