“Tipping” is always a difficult business. You do not want to give too much little, or tip the wrong person.

In Britain or America, people usually tip waiters in restaurant, porters, taxi drivers and hairdressers. They do not tip people in offices, cinemas, garages, or airports.

Do you invite your friends to the restaurant? Then you pay the bill. Does your friend invite you? Your friend pays. If there are men and women in the party, men usually pay.

These days men and women are equal in many ways. If you work in Britain or America, your boss could be a man or a woman. There are increasing numbers of women in important positions in politics, law, medicine and in the business world.

But it is still polite for a man to open doors for women and to ask them to go first. And it is polite for men to stand up when they are introduced to women. On informal occasions, of course, everyone is more relaxed.

Thumbs Down to Texting屈指发短信

Do you have a mobile phone?Do you send text messages to your friends and family?

Text messaging or “texting” is becoming very popular. But, scientists have discovered that texting can give us problems with our hands.Be careful!Too much texting can cause swelling in our thumbs. Our thumbs were not made for pushing small buttons, over and over..Scientists call this problem RSI.We spoke to a doctor called Harriet Wilson, who treats many sick people with RSI.She says we need to see how much time we are spending in typing text messages. If we are spending more than 10 -15 minutes at once, we could have problems in the future.

As mobile phones develop, they are getting smaller with buttons closer together.Texting with a smaller phone is worse than using a larger phone with bigger buttons.Using a computer keyboard and playing video games can cause the same problem. So more and more people could find themselves with RSI.Among them, most are university students and teenagers, as they do not know the risks of spending so much time using computer, video games and mobile phones. If we don’t do something about this, too many young people could grow up in terrible pain.

Last year in the UK at least 45 people died and 900 more were injured in car accidents where drivers were using their mobile phones.Yet many people continue to use them while driving even though it’s dangerous.
Research has shown that it is difficult to concentrate on driving and talking at the same time.It can even be more dangerous than driving after drinking too much.A recent study found that when drivers were talking on their mobile phones, their stopping times were 30 percent slower than when they had drunk too much-and nearly 50 percent slower than when they were driving normally. It also found that drivers talking on mobile phones were less able to control their cars than drunk drivers.
And talking isn’t even the most serious problem, texting(发短信) is. Unbelievably, another recent study reported that 22% of adults admitted they had sent a text message while driving at least once in the past month. An average text message takes 90 seconds to write and send. That means for one and a half minutes a driver is looking at their phone’s screen and not at the road. The arrival of new smart phones such as the iPhone will only make matters worse as they will allow users to do more things than ever before.http://www.xkb1 .com
Using a mobile phone while driving puts others’ lives at risk.No matter how well we drive,if another driver is not being professional or careful,we are put in danger by their actions.Such drivers are selfish(自私的),careless and should have their driving licenses cancelled(取消).
There is no doubt that mobile phones call be fun and are extremely useful, especially when you’re in trouble. But there is no need to use them while driving.Just wait until you stop or you will probably get into trouble of your own.
