A well-known speaker started his speech by holding up a $20 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, “What is this piece of 1 and is it worth anything?”
Hands started going up. “It is a $20 bill, encashable(可兑现的) in international and national 2 .”replied one of the 3 who raised their hands.
The speaker continued, “I am going to give this $20 to one of you, but first, let me do this.” He continued to crumple the 20 dollar bill using both his hands. He then 4 it and asked, “Who still wants it?” Still the hands were up in the air.
“Well,” he said, “what if I do this?” He dropped it on the 5 and started to step on it. He picked up the crumpled and 6 bill and said, “Now, who still wants it?”
7 went back into the air. “I think this bill is still 8 its value”, said a young man in an unsure 9 . “We can still use the bill to 10 goods worth 20 dollars,” said the other people.
“My friends, you have all learned a very 11 lesson in this exercise that we are just through with. You’ve 12 that I can crumple the $20 bill during the process as the effects can be seen clearly. 13 , no matter what I did to the piece of paper, you were 14 in your mind that my actions did not actually decrease its 15 . It was still worth $20.”
“Many times in our lives, we feel like as if we are 16 , crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are 17 ; but no matter what happened or what will happen, please 18 , you will never lose your value.” Values that you keep in your heart will always 19 you from a difficult situation.
Dirty or clean, crumpled or not, you are still priceless to those who love you. The worth of our lives comes, not in what we do or who we know, but by ...WHO WE ARE.” “You are 20 — don’t ever forget it.”

John tried it on and the 44 was perfect.
John 45 the coat to school the next day and came home with a big smile. “Did the kids like your coat?” I asked. “They loved it,” he said, 46 folding it over the back of a chair and smoothing it flat. Over the next few weeks, a 47 came over John. Agreement replaced contrariness (作对) and 48 discussion replaced fierce argument. He became more mannerly and 49 , eager to please. He would generously lend his younger brother his tapes and lecture him 50 his behavior. When I mentioned this 51 to his teacher and wondered what caused the changes, she said laughing. “It 52 be his coat!” Another teacher told him she was giving him a good mark not only because he had earned 53 but because she liked his coat. At the library, we ran 54 a friend. “Could this be John?” he asked surprisingly, 55 John’s new height, appreciating the cut of his coat and holding out his hand, one gentleman to another.
John and I both know we should never 56 a person’s clothes for the real person within them. 57 , there is something to be said for wearing a standard of excellence for the world to see and for 58 what is on the inside with what is on the outside.
For John, it is a time when it is as easy to try on different 59 to life as it is to try on a coat. The whole world, the whole future is stretched out ahead, a vast landscape 60 all the doors are open. And he could picture himself walking through those doors wearing his wonderful, magical coat.

Mr. Rice was no 5 teacher.I entered high school not 6 quite sure what debate was.I left his class four years later as an outstanding debater.Even today, I'm not sure what 7 such a great teacher of him.He always said 8 he was thinking. And he was 9 .He'd 10 out of the classroom angrily if he thought a student was giving 11 his effort. The worst thing with us was to be taken no notice of. 12 , being torn apart by Mr. Rice in the middle of a practice debate meant you were one of his favorites.
