    　　Most people say “yes” much more readily than “no”．A friend is moving house this weekend and would like some help, and you agree．But, what you really want is a couple of quiet days relaxing at home．

    　　Many people say “yes” to these kinds of requests．They tend not to consider their own interests and feelings, and are often angry with themselves afterwards．

    　　Saying “no” requires courage and some practice, in fact, according to psychologists(心理学家)．“Everyone wants to be liked,” says Gabriele Steinki, a German psychologist．“Saying ‘no’ risks① losing the affection(感情)of the person asking the favor．Or even a job．”

    　　The result is that many people say “yes” just for keeping the peace．But experts say this is regrettable．Anyone should have the right to say “no”．But, for people are used to agreeing to every request, changing can be a long and uncomfortable process．

    　　Most people believe that “If say ‘no’, I’ll lose the affection of the person．But the affection is important to me．”This way of thinking can be replaced② by this “If he only likes me because I always do what suits him, then the price of his affection is too high in the long term．”

         Friendship and friends continue to be the centre of our life. The relationship that we share with our
    friends is grounded in mutual (相互的) care as our friends help us in shaping our personalities as well.
    Even in this age of online social networking and e-cards, the need of keeping the network of friends,
    whether online or offline remains a primary concern for people. We may not completely understand
    what makes a friend but we all want to have a good number of friends around us.
         The first step to make friends with someone is to make them like you. If they don't like you in the first
    place, it is unlikely that they’ll be eager to become your friends. To let someone know that you are
