Last year, my mom found out that she had stomach cancer. I thought she¡¯d be fine after she got ¡¡36 as she was diagnosed(Õï¶Ï)early. She had an operation to 37 a third of her stomach to stop the cancer from spreading. And for two months she went back and forth to the ¡¡38 . But I never visited her because I was ¡¡39 with school abroad and didn¡¯t fully know what was ¡¡40 . After her treatment, she ¡¡41 working because of her poor health and ate a(n) ¡¡42 diet. I visited her in the summer holiday. She seemed better, so I forgot that there was a possibility of cancer ¡¡43 .
¡¡When school ¡¡44 , I said goodbye to my family. My mom called me from home every day. ¡¡45 in early November, my dad called instead. He sounded 46 .
¡¡ ¡°What¡¯s wrong? How come Mom¡¯s not calling me today?¡± I asked. After a few seconds, he said my mom¡¯s cancer had returned and spread throughout her ¡¡47 . Her survival rate was less than 30%.
¡¡ After I put down the phone, I ¡¡48 . Tears kept coming out. I didn¡¯t want to ¡¡49 it. I couldn¡¯t accept the ¡¡50 that my mom might not have much time left. I cried and cried and at last, I stopped crying. I thought I should stop acting like a ¡¡51 and pull myself together.
¡¡ Looking back to when my mom first got cancer, I ¡¡52 how stupid I was for not appreciating her. I feel bad that I didn¡¯t visit her in the hospital. I should have cared. She¡¯s my mom. ¡¡53 , it¡¯s not too late. She recovered. I¡¯ll try to spend more time with my mom ¡¡54 . I hope you will do the same for your mom. Spend some time with your loved ones ¡¡55 it is too late.

The books in David¡¯s schoolbag felt like bricks as he ran down the street. What he wanted to do was to play basketball with Eric, ¡¡41¡¡ his mother told him he would have to return his sister¡¯s books to the library first.
He had ¡¡42¡¡ set foot in a library and he wasn¡¯t about to do so today. He would just ¡¡43¡¡¡¡¡¡ the books in the outside return box. But there was a ¡¡44¡¡ ; it was locked.
He went into the building, only a few minutes ¡¡45¡¡ closing time. He put the books into the return box. And after a brief ¡¡46¡¡ in the toilet, he would be on his way to the playground to¡¡ ¡¡47¡¡ Eric.
David stepped out of the toilet and stopped in ¡¡48¡¡ --the library lights were off. The place was ¡¡49¡¡ . The doors had been shut. They ¡¡50¡¡ be opened from the inside. He was trapped¡¡ -- in a library!
He tried to ¡¡51¡¡ a telephone call, but was unable to ¡¡52¡¡ . What¡¯s worse, the pay phones were on the outside of the building. ¡¡53¡¡ the sun began to set, he searched for a light and found it.
54¡¡ he could see. David wrote on a piece of paper: ¡° 55¡¡ ! I¡¯m TRAPPED inside!¡± and stuck it to the glass door. ¡¡56¡¡ , someone passing by would see it.
He was surprised to discover that this place was not so unpleasant ¡¡57¡¡ . Rows and rows of shelves held books, videos and music. He saw a book about Michael Jordan and took it off the shelf. He calmed down, settled into a chair and started to ¡¡58¡¡ .
He knew he had to ¡¡59¡¡ , but now, that didn¡¯t seem to be such a ¡¡60¡¡ thing.

A friend of mine met with an accident driving in darkness. His legs were so hurt that he couldn¡¯t move. What was the ¡¡36 was he found himself unable to ask for help-his mobile phone went out of ¡¡37 as a result of exhausted battery. Nothing could be done but to
38 in cold wilderness. It was 8 hours later that day broke, and then the 39 of the rescue.
¡¡ It is almost ¡¡40 that he could stand the horror in the darkness for so long. Even more surprising was his 41 : ¡°First of all I checked up my ¡¡42 conditions and found myself not in fatal danger. As there was no ¡¡43 to call for help, I leaned back in my seat trying my best to keep the wound from 44 . In this way I dozed (´òíï) off.¡±
His story put an end to my regret for the ¡¡45 of an exploration adventure that happened last year. A group of young men ¡¡46 to explore a mountain cave and got lost.
47 to find a way out in the dark cave they were frightened and ran anxiously without a sense of ¡¡48 . Finally they fell dead in fear and exhaustion. According to the ¡¡49¡¡
people that found them, the place where they got lost was only about 10 meters away from the
50 of the cave. If they stayed on the spot when they lost their way and tried to ¡¡51
themselves, they would probably sense a faint light glimmering (ÉÁ˸) not far away.
¡¡ Don¡¯t you think that you can compare it with ¡¡52 itself? When you meet with obstacles in life and work, you are lost in darkness. ¡¡53 you it¡¯s unclear yet and you needn¡¯t put up struggle ¡¡54 . It seems to be a negative attitude, ¡¡55 a person who can afford to do so must have foresight as well as a great courage in the first place.

On a winter day, it rained heavily. While I was walking from the library at the end of my ¡¡31 break, a man was walking towards me with two huge ¡¡32 of brochures.
I thought, ¡°What ¡¡33 is that man trying to do? Carrying all those things?¡± Then all of a sudden he ¡¡34 them all! What a terrible mess with hundreds of brochures all over the ¡¡35 in front of me! ¡°Oh, no,¡± I thought. The man ¡¡36 his head helplessly in the rain and started trying to ¡¡37¡¡ all of the brochures up. I couldn¡¯t believe how many people walked ¡¡38 as if nothing had happened.
I thought, ¡°I am not going to be one of those people who don¡¯t ¡¡39¡¡ this man.¡± I wondered what I would ¡¡40 people to react if I were that man. So, ¡¡41 it was the end of my lunch time from work and I would be ¡¡42 if I stopped to help him, I didn¡¯t mind. If I ¡¡43 what happened, I was sure my ¡¡44 wouldn¡¯t mind too much. So, I helped him gather them all. Then I asked if he would like a ¡¡45¡¡ carrying a box to where he went. He said yes gratefully.
I carried one of the boxes. The box I had to carry was very ¡¡46 ¡ªas I¡¯m quite a short and thin girl¡ªbut I didn¡¯t ¡¡ 47¡¡ . We got there and he thanked me very much for helping him ¡¡48 . He also gave me one of these brochures about all the walks in and around the Bay of Plenty.
What is a more ¡¡49 way to spend some time than helping someone else when you can? Luckily, I wasn¡¯t that late back to work, so nobody even ¡¡50 it at all!
