Everybody staying at a certain place long enough needs to know where the toilet is . When I first visited the Divinity School Library in Yale University, I tried to find the 1 with words familiar to me such as WC, Ladies, Bathroom and Washroom, etc.I used all the 2 I had about toilets ,but I could not find 3 . My common sense told me that there 4 be toilets in the library, so I 5 trying Finally ,I found a door on which was a single 6 :WOMEN. 7 it did not look at all like a toilet, I thought it must be one. And because I couldn't 8 any longer, I had to try it .As I 9 the door, I was sure I made a 10 ,so I came out immediately. 11 what I had entered was a room much 12 than my living room in Beijing , with a 13 lamp by a table on a beautiful green carpet. On one 14 of the room, there was a very comfortable brown sofa. 15 it there was a mirror on the wall up to the 16 .There were two 17 sofas, by the side of the table. In one corner was a clothes hanger and in another 18 was a big pot of green plants. It 19 a big sitting room in a hotel .There was no sign of a 20 .But it was the only 21 place a toilet could be. Then I remembered that there was another door in the room , so I went back in and opened the door. And there it was ! I found it 22 ! The toilet room was only half the size of the outer room.It had only two seats. Then ,another question came to me :since it was impossible for such a big library to have only one toilet ,I had to ask someone about toilets. A ¡°Rest Room¡±is also a toilet. The ¡°rest room ¡°had only one seat ,and both women and men could use it by 23 the door from inside.

The term ¡°rest room¡± is miles apart from the Chinese 24 of a toilet. Here at Yale, when I use a ¡°women¡±, I feel myself a queen. And when using a ¡°rest room¡±, I do have a 25 of rest, because it is clean and has a window with a beautiful view.

Yesterday, after telling my brother, Rhys, and me to stop playing like wild animals, Mom went to take a bath. We were having a pillow fight when ¡¡36 one hit a vase. Mom ¡¡37 the loud crash. A high school history teacher once told us, ¡°If you make one close friend in school, you will be most fortunate. A true friend is someone who stays with you for life.¡±  1   teaches that he was right. Good friendship is just not easily    2   .

It is possible that we simply do not stay in one place long enough for a   3   friendship to develop. However, there can be no disagreement on the   4   for each of us to think carefully about the   5   of friendship we want.

To most of us, friendships are   6   very important, but we need to have cleared in our  7 the kinds of friendship we want. Are they to be close or   8  at arm¡¯s length? Do we want to share ourselves or do we want to walk on the   9   ? For some people, many friendships on the surface are   10   enough and that¡¯s all right. But at some point,  11   to make sure that our expectations are the same as our friends¡¯ expectations. The   12   of personal experience including our tears as well as our dark dreams is the   13    way to deepen friendships. But it must be undertaken(½øÐÐ)slowly and   14    only if there are signs of interest and action in return.

What are some of the   15   of friendship? The greatest is the attraction to expect too much time. Another ¡°   16    difficulty¡±is the selfishness to take actions too soon. Deep relationships   17   one ¡°possesses¡±the other, including his time and attention.  18   , friendships in return. In other words, you must give as much as you take.  19    there is a question of taking care of them.  20   you spend reasonable time together, talking on the phone, writing letters, doing things together, friendships will die away.

It was 4 o¡¯ clock in the morning when I received the phone call.

¡°This is the emergency room calling and your son was just 31 in with severe burns on his face, neck and arms. We have called for a (n) 32 and are going to fly him to the burn unit in Seattle.¡± Seattle was 350 miles from his college, so we knew immediately this was 33 .

The doctor described the 34 , which caused the burns. Our son and his friends decided to barbecue hamburgers in the courtyard of their apartment. When they 35 the charcoal(ľ̿), it burst into flames because they had sprayed too much gasoline(petrol). The flames 36 my son¡¯s shirt tail(Ï°Ú) and shot from his waist to well over his head.

37 , one of the boys was quick-minded, grasped(ץס) my son, and 38 him on the grass. While it saved his life, it was not in 39 to save him from severe burns and the terrible scars(ÉË°Ì).

After he 40 from the treatments, the doctors told him they would not do plastic surgery(ÕûÈÝ) for 6 months 41 it takes that long for the skin to stop shrinking(ËõË®) and wrinkling(ÆðÖå). So, he had to return to college with scars typical of severe burns.

When I was a child, my mother told my sister, who had a 10-inch, very 42 scar on her arm, ¡°Nancy, if you ignore the scar, other people will ignore it. It does not mean they will not 43 it, but it means it will not matter to them if it doesn¡¯t matter to you.¡±

I 44 this wisdom on to my son. He took my advice to his 45 and returned to school with his head held high¡ª¡ªglad he was alive.

By the end of the six-month waiting period, he decided that the scars did not 46 , so he made the 47 to give up any plastic surgery.

We all have ¡°scars¡± that we believe 48 people to keep away from us. And we spend a lot of time thinking that if only we looked differently, or dressed differently, people would like us better.

But you see, people will only judge you by your looks, or your clothes, if you are judging yourself by these same 49 standards. Put your imperfections out of your mind and concentrate on what you value 50 yourself, and your beauty will shine through.
