Here's a good way to find out where you need the most improvement: check your report card. Don't just look at the 1 . Check the comments your teachers write about each 2 . Very often when students 3 report cards, they check their marks very quickly. Then they stop 4 and put them away. However, this is not right. Your report cards may 5 comments from each teacher. These comments are more useful than the grades. Not all comments by teachers are useful. Some have a common 6 of how the class has studied in the 7 term. There may be only a few 8 on your own work, and sometimes such comments are mainly written about which sometimes teachers' 9 comments are written in a kind of secret code (代码) that I 10 "report-speak". For example, "George has a good understanding of…" It 11 good. But in fact, a "good" understanding may be the third, or fourth best result below "excelent" and "very good". 12 you realize this, "good understanding" isn't so good any more. Because comments on the reportcard don't 13 have the information you're looking for, the 14 way to discover where you most need to improve is to ask your teachers 15 if you want to use your report card better. | ||||

Now boys and girls, let’s begin our class. As I know, you are interested in some strange math problems. So today I’m going to tell you one of the strangest ways to multiply numbers of two or more figures.Maybe you don’t know the word “multiply”.The word “multiply” mean s“乘...,乘法的乘”in Chinese. For example,8 multiplied by 2 is l6.It means “8乘以2是16” in Chinese.Do you understand now? Of course.there are many ways to multiply numbers. But here is one of the strangest.
Imagine you wish to multiply 23 by 17.In Chinese,it means 23乘以17.Half of 23 is 11.5.Write only 11 under 23 as you see in the paper.Half of 11 is 5.5.Write only 5 under 11.Now think it over, what number will you write under 5? Yes, you are right, just 2.Now please write the number under 5.Continue until you have 1.
Now write numbers under 17.But this time you must multiply each number by two to write the number under it.For example, you should write 34 under 17.As a rule, what number will you write under 34? Yes, you are right, 68.Now please write the number under 34.Continue until you have a number on the same line as 1.Now draw a line through any row that has an even number on the left.Yes, even number means 偶数 in Chinese. In our example there is only one even number.Right? Now please draw a line through the line that has au even number on the left. Now add the rest of the numbers in the right hand row.Believe it or not, you will get the right answer. What is it? OK.Please write the number, I mean the right answer in the right place.
Now class, I'll give you several minutes to discuss how it works.

When students and parents are asked to grade subjects according to their importance, the arts are usually at the bottom of the list. Music is nice, people seem to say, but not important. Too often it is only viewed as entertainment, but certainly not an education priority(优先). This view is shortsighted. In fact, music education is very important for all students.
Music tells us who we are. Because music is an expression of the beings who create it, it shows their thinking and values, as well as the social environment it came from. Rock music represents a lifestyle just as surely as does a Schubert song. The jazz influence that George Gershwin and other musicians introduced into their music is obviously American because it came from American musical traditions. Music expresses our character and values. It gives us identity(身份,特性)as a society.
Music provides a kind of perception(感知)that cannot be acquired any other way. Science can explain how the sun rises and sets. The arts can express the emotive(情感的)meaning of the same thing. We need every possible way to discover and respond to our world for one simple but powerful reason: No one way can get it all.
The arts are forms of thought as powerful in what they communicate as mathematical and scientific symbols. They are ways we human beings “talk” to each other. They are the language through which we express our fears, our hungers, our discoveries, our hopes. The arts are ways we give form to our ideas and imagination so that they can be shared with others. When we do not give children an important way of expressing themselves such as music, we take away from them the meanings that music expresses.
Science and technology do not tell us what it means to be human. The arts do. Music is an important way we express human suffering, celebration, the value of peace and love.
So music education is far more necessary than people seem to realize.
