Sandy wrote an article to introduce her e-friend in the USA to her classmates. Here is her article.

Sophie is my e-friend in the USA. We often chat on the Internet. We also write to each other sometimes. Her handwriting is great. She is learning Chinese now and she can even write Chinese very well. What a wonderful girl!

I have got a picture of her, and she looks so pretty and slim. I know she is clever at art and languages, but she hates PE. Ever she sent me an e-mail to describe her feeling in a PE class. Of all the classes she had that day, the PE class was the worst. It was even worse than the Maths class. They had to go running at the beginning, although the playground was covered with mud. Then they had to play soccer. The worst part during that PE class was when the students chose whom they wanted on their teams, she was the last person selected(挑选). How embarrassing(令人难堪的)it was!

I think maybe that was the most unlucky day for her, because the end of the PE class was not the end of her bad luck. She had to clean all the mud on the sports clothes herself.

Read her article and choose the correct answers to the questions.

1 How is Sophie's Chinese?

A.She can't speak or write Chinese.

B.She can speak, but can't write.

C.She can write it very well.

D.She can write it, but not very well.

2 What is Sophie's favourite subject?

A.Music class.

B.PE class.

C.Maths class.

D.Sandy didn't tell us.

3 Why did Sophie feel embarrassed?

A.Because her uniform didn't look good on her.

B.Because the soccer ball always hit her on the head.

C.Because she was the last person picked for the team.

D.Because she always got mud on her clothes.

4 Why didn't Sophie like that PE class?

A.Because she likes running and playing soccer.

B.Because she likes soccer, but doesn't like running.

C.Because she had to run without shoes.

D.Because she had to run in the mud and she was the last one selected for the team.

5 Which is not true?

A.Sandy thinks Sophie is good at languages.

B.Sophie needs to wear sports clothes in PE class.

C.In Sandy's view, that was an unlucky day for Sophie.

D.Sophie likes Maths best.

Last week, my granddaughter started primary school. And I wished her every success. But part of me didn’t. I really wanted her to fail in some ways because I believe that failure can be good for us to grow up. Success is that you can do something that you already know you can do, or doing something correctly the first time. First –time success is usually a luck. First-time failure, in fact, is supposed to be the natural order of things. Failure is how we learn.
I make my living by writing articles for a daily newspaper. Each week I thought that the article that I write would be the worst. I try my best every day. A successful article usually means that I am discussing the subjects I know well, writing in the way I am used to or saying the same things as anyone else but in an excellent way.
My younger daughter is a trapeze artist荡秋千演员.she spent three years putting together a show, and she did it successfully for years. There was no reason for her to change it but she did anyway. She was afraid to be bored. She met failure when she tried some new ways in her show. But she did his only in order to feed her soul心灵。
My granddaughter is a perfectionist. She will feel her failures, and I will want to comfort her. But I will also, I hope, remind her of what she learned, and how she can do better next time. I hope I can tell her, though, that it’s not the end of the world. With luck, it is the beginning.
