We always look forward to World Book Day-it’s a chance to share our love of books and reading with even more people! Here are some of the activities in different countries and places to celebrate the World Book Day, April 23^rd every year.

School Children’s Books

School Children’s Books are happy that best-selling writer Holly Webb is their World Book Day writer for 2012. Holly has written a large number of books for chldren and she has written a special Magic Molly story just for this years World Book Day!

Reading Package

On the World Book Day, every primary school student in Britain will receive a package from their school. Inside, there is a story book, a beautiful card and a reading list. Besides these three things, there will also receive a special note, which is worth one pound. Children can use it to buy their favorite books. And they can also enjoy a special price---20% cheaper.

Share of Reading

It is an interesting on-line activity which is for one week. People can share their opinions of a book on line. There are also many reading-aloud activities in libraries. For example, in 2010’s World bookd Day, U.S. first lady Michelle Obama read aloud a book called The Cat in The Hat for More than 200 children in a library.

Deserts(沙漠)do not stay the same size (形状).Sometimes they grow bigger. Sometimes they get smaller. The world’s biggest desert, Sahara, is in Africa. Right now, the Sahara desert is growing fast.
Why is the Sahara growing ? In some places , People farm too much.  In other places ,animals eat all the grass. or people cut down the trees. This makes the soil(土壤) weak. Weak soil lets the desert grow.
Why is it a problem? people can not grow food in the desert. people can not build houses, hospitals , or schools in the desert . so people must leave their homes .They must live somewhere else.
What can people do ? They can plant trees. They can also farm less. These things make soil stronger. maybe the Sahara will stop growing . It’s a big problem. Many people must work together to solve (解决) it?

What can people do when natural disasters (灾难）happen? Can we stop them? No, we can't. The only thing we can do is to  41   after the disasters.

    Last year I met Mr. Flood. It started raining and   42   raining almost a month: the water on the streets got higher and higher every day. We used   43   instead of cars. We lost lots of things, including our businesses, our jobs and our homes.
