Last July, my 12-year-old car died on California's Santa Ana Freeway. It was an hour before sunset, and I was 25 miles from home. I couldn't reach anyone to pick me up, so I decided to take a bus. Not knowing the routes, I figured I'd just head east. A bus pulled up, and I asked the driver how far she was going. “Four more lights,” she said. There was another bus I could take from there. This clearly was going to be a long night. She dropped me off at the end of her route and told me which bus to look for.
After waiting 30 minutes, I began to think about a very expensive taxi ride home. Then a bus pulled up. There was no lighted number above its windshield (挡风玻璃). It was out of service. But the door opened, and I was surprised to find that it was the same driver. “I just can't leave you here,” she said. “This isn't the nicest place. I'll give you a ride home.” “You'll drive me home in the bus?” I asked, perplexed (困惑). “No, I'll take you in my car,” she said. “It's a long way,” I protested. “Come on, ” she said. “I have nothing else to do.”
As we drove from the station in her car, she began telling me a story. A few days earlier, her brother had run out of gas. A good Samaritan picked him up, took him to a service station and then back to his car. “I'm just passing the favor along, ” she said. When I offered her money as a thank-you, she wouldn't hear of it. “That wouldn't make it a favor, ” she said. “Just do something nice for somebody. Pass it along.”

阅读短文,根据短文内容选择正确的答案

It was a cold wet night. The taxi driver hadn't had any passenger all day. When he went by the bus station, he saw a young man from the country coming out, carrying two big bags. “Aha!” thought the taxi driver. “Here's the right person to make good this bad day.” He quickly stopped the taxi and opened the door.

Driver:Where do you want to go, sir?

  Young Man:To the Park Hotel.

The taxi driver felt very sorry when he heard that. The Park Hotel was hardly two kilometers away. The young man would give him fifty cents(美分) at most. Only fifty cents! Then he had an idea of taking the young man by a longer way-going all around the city and then back to the Park Hotel. This he did, and after a long time the taxi arrived at the hotel at last.

Driver:You should pay me fifteen dollars, sir. Young Man:What? Fifteen dollars? Do you think I'm a fool? You're trying to cheat(欺骗)me.

  Driver:How can you say I…

Young Man:You must think I don't know my way around.

  Driver:But…

Young Man:Only last week I took a taxi from the station to this hotel, I know how much I should pay.

  Driver:Oh…Oh…all right. Now…now look…oh…

Young Man:I think I should call the policeman.

Driver:Oh, no! Please don't do that! I have four hungry children and my wife is ill in bed.

Young Man:All right! This time I'll forget it.

Driver:Oh, thank you, sir. And you are right. You needn't pay that much.

Young Man:You don't have to tell me that. I come from the country, but I'm as clever as you city people.

  Driver:Yes, sir.

Young Man:I just won't he cheated. I won't pay you a cent more than I paid the other taxi last week…thirteen dollars!
