题目列表(包括答案和解析)

On Sunday morning, a strong earthquake hit Indonesia and then big tsunamis(海啸) followed. They soon went on to other countries in the south and southeast Asia as well as East Africa.
Tsunamis are especially dangerous for children. By Wednesday,  nearly 60 000 people died because of the tsunamis. 30% of them were children,  and most of them were 5 to 12 years old.
In open seas tsunamis are only one or two metres high. When they are near land, they are as high as 10 metres,  Houses and cars near the sea can be taken away by these big waves. Because tsunamis move fast and can travel to another side of the sea within one day, they may affect(影响)a lot of places.
The Pacific Ocean(太平洋)has a lot of strong tsunamis because of the size of the ocean and large earthquakes there. China doesn\'t see tsunamis often because its sea floor is quite flat(平的). Islands around China also help the country avoid from them.
What should you do when there\'s a tsunamis? Move to a safe place. If you are near the sea and you feel the earth shake, move to higher ground. Stay away from rivers and streams(溪流).

The right name is important in the business world. All you have to do is think of the names for some of the products you buy every day and you’ll agree that the name and the product are connected in everyone’s mind.

In many countries, successful trade or brand(商标) names are protected by law so that other companies cannot make the same product by copying. Businesses register(注册) a company or a product name with the government. In fact, more than 1,000 product and company names are registered every hour. Many companies spend a lot of money to find the right name for their products. A good example of this is in the car industry. Some successful names for cars have powerful associations(联系). The Ford Mustang and the Jaguar are only two examples of choosing the names of animals that are fast and strong.

When a U. S company decides to sell its product in another country, it has to make sure that the product name translates(翻译) properly. When Coca-Cola introduced its soft drink to China, it looked for the right name. It wanted a name that would do two things. One was to present its image in Chinese and the second was to be close to its first brand name—Coke. It took some efforts before finding the right word — which sounds similar and translates as “happiness in the mouth”. Asian company names are not new to the United States. The brand names of Samsung and Sony have been successful. Finding the right brand name is a big business. Asian companies that sell to foreign markets pay to find a name that will connect with its customers. There are even naming companies that offer help in inventing product names. These companies can charge up to $100,000 a word for their good names. But it’s worth it. Successful companies know how important the right brand names are for their development.

1.Why are trade names protected by law in many countries?

B.To help people choose the best products.

D.To prevent good images from being copied.

2.What can we learn from the passage?

A. Many companies care about the cost of finding the right names.

From old times, India has been a good friend of China. The two big Asian countries now work more closely on border problems, trade (贸易) and IT.

India is an interesting and mysterious( 神秘的)country with a long history. Around 2,000 BC, Indian civilization (文明) was born. It is one of the four oldest civilizations in the world. India is also the birthplace of  Buddhism (佛教). A famous  Chinese novel, "A Journey to the West", is about a Chinese monk (和尚) who tried very hard to learn about Buddhism from India.

The book comes from a true story. Xuanzang, a Buddhist monk was sent to India by the King of the Tang Dynasty. After many years, he brought back lots of Buddhist books. The name "India" was first used by Xuanzang in his work.

Today, religion(宗教) is still an important part of Indian culture. There are many religions there. Most Indian people believe in Hinduism (印度教). In India, cows are very special animals because  Hinduism  says they are holy (神圣的). So Indians don't sell or eat beef. Like China,

India is a developing  country with a large population(人口). It has  about 1.03 billion people compared to China's 1.3  billion.  More than two thirds of  Indians still live a poor life in the countryside.

India has no birth control so its population is growing fast. By 2030, India could even have more people than China.

Hindi (印地语) is the mother tongue of Indian people. But Britain took India in 1757 and stayed there until 1947. Because of this, English slowly became the other official  language.

1.Why don't Indians sell or eat beef?

   A. Because they don't like it.

B. Because they are afraid of getting ill.

   C. Because they see cows as holy animals.

D. Because beef is very expensive.

2.What is/are the official language(s) of India?

   A. Hindi     B. English

C. Both of the above    D. None of the above
