Zhan Tianyou was born in 1861.In 1877 he entered Yale University and studied to be a railway engineer.In 1905 the Chinese government decided to build a railway between Beijing and Zhangjiakou.The British and the Russians wanted to build this railway，but the government wanted Chinese people to build it.They asked Zhan Tianyou to plan it.
