Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A, B, C and D. Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.

Doctors used to think that people who walked in their sleep were acting out their dreams. But this has been proved _28_.

In 1952 researchers learnt that when we _29_, our eyes move rapidly under closed lids. Tests show that everyone dreams every night. But we do not dream the whole time. Dreams occur when we are sleeping _30_, but seldom when we are sleeping deeply. It was found that sleep walkers are only active during deep sleep. They are not _31_ at the time.

An expert who has researched sleeping walking tells of a _32_ case. A college student would get up in her sleep. She would dress and walk a kilometer to a river. Then she would have a swim, then walk back to college and go back to bed. Like most sleep walkers, she could not, later, _33_ doing any of those things.

There are _34_ of sleep walkers driving cars, buying a ticket and getting on a plane, even climbing from one rooftop to the next.

People who are sleepwalking seem to be in a trance(恍惚). If they are _35_, they may not answer. If they do, they may sound offhand, as though annoyed.

Doctors agree that sleep walkers should be woken gently. The best way to wake them is to repeat their names _36_, again and again.

If a sleep walker is left alone, he will usually return to his _37_ when he has finished what he is doing.
