第二节

Ⅰ. Q6-8

M: Excuse me. Have you been waiting long?

W: Um…About ten minutes.

M: Did you notice whether the No.7 bus has gone by?

W: Not while I was standing here. I’m waiting for the No.7 myself.

M: Good. Hot today, isn’t it?

W: Oh, yes, it is. I wish that it would rain and cool off.

M: Me,too. This is unusual for March. I don’t remember it ever being so hot and dry in March before.

W: You were born in Florida then.

M: No, I was born in New York. But I’ve lived here for ten years now.

W: My mother and I have just moved here from Indiana.

M: Pretty cold in Indiana, isn’t it?

W: Oh, yes. That’s why we moved. But we didn’t know that it would be so hot here. We should have gone to California. Do you think we’ve missed the bus? I’ve been here for 20 minutes already.

M: Don’t worry. It never comes exactly on the half hour like it should.

Ⅱ. Q9-10

W: Hey, did you see the article in today’s college newspaper?

M: No, I’ve been studying all morning. What’s so exciting?

W: Well, this April, the school is going to have its own radio station.

M: Oh, really? I hope that means we’ll have more popular music to listen to now.

W: Actually, I don’t know if I would get so excited. The article stated that there would be programs on all sorts of music as well as discussion and teaching programs.

M: Too bad. It sounds as though there won’t be much time for good music.

W: The station is going to be on all day and all night without stopping. So I’m sure it will satisfy all kinds of tastes.

M: I certainly hope so. At least it’s better than nothing.

Ⅲ. Q11-13

W: Did you hear the good news about David? He’s living in Australia now and he loves it. He started a business and he’s now very rich. It seems it’s so easy to make money there.

M: Oh, I haven’t heard the news, but I’m not surprised. David has a sharp eye for business. The grass is always greener on the other side. Do you want to go abroad too?

W: No, but I know for a fact that people in Australia are more wealthy. Where we are, everyone is trying to save money. It’s practically impossible to make money here.

M: That’s true. To tell you the truth, my business isn’t doing well at all. Customers aren’t coming like they used to. I’m really considering selling the business and starting in another market. Maybe I’m too nervous about these things.

W: I wouldn’t say that. According to the governement, this is the worst time we’ve had in history. They say the best thing you can do is to keep working and try to wait until all things improve.

Ⅳ. Q14-16

W: Hello, Tom. When are you taking off for Beijing?

    M: Next Monday morning.

W: How are you getting there, by air?

    M: No, by train.

W: Is anybody seeing you off?

M: Yes. The manager is seeing me off. I’m going to buy telephone equipment for our company.

Ⅴ. Q17-20

Many centuries ago, all people lived on seeds and plants. They did not know how to farm or raise animals for food. Because they used stone tools, we call them the Stone Age People. There are people who still live much like the Stone Age people lived. They live in places that are hard to reach. Since they have met few outsiders, they don’t know about modern inventions, they have not learned ways of doing things from others. For 25,000 years, such groups of people have lived alone in the middle of Australia. One of the groups is the Kooris. They do not know how to farm, nor do they raise animals. The Kooris spend most of their time searching for food and water. The men hunt animals with stone-tipped spears. The women and children look for roots, seeeds and nuts. Several Kooris families live together as a group. They have no houses. At night, they sleep around fires.
