W: I have several hobbies but collecting coins is the one I like best. I have coins from almost every country. My favorite one is from China.

M: Have you ever been to China?

W: I want to some day. So far I’ve been to Canada, Mexico, and Japan. Why don’t you have a real hobby? Are you lazy?

M: I like bowling but it’s kind of expensive. The reason I don’t have a hobby is that I don’t have the time.

Conversation 5

In today’s program, I’ll tell you about an American holiday called Sweetest Day.

Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October as a day to make someone happy.. It offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged, orphaned, but also friends, relatives and the helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed.

In the middle 1940’s, a Cleveland man, believing that the city’s orphans and those who were badly ill in bed too often felt left out, had the idea of showing them that they were remembered. He did this by giving away small gifts. With the help if his friends and neighbors, he gave these small remembrances in a Saturday in October. During the years that followed. Other Clevelanders began to take part in the celebration ceremony, which came to be called “Sweetest Day”. In time, the Sweetest Day idea of spreading cheer to the disadvantaged was broadened to include everyone and became a time to remember others with a kind act or a small remembrance. And soon the idea spread to other cities all over the country.

 SECTION B

Directions: In this section, you will hear a mini-talk. Listen carefully and then fill in the numbered blanks with the information you've got. Fill in each blank with No MORE THAN 3 WORDS.

You will hear the mini-talk TWICE.

Good afternoon, everyone.. I’m sure you are looking forward to meeting the families you’re going to be staying with during the next 4 weeks. Now, please listen carefully to the following arrangements as the various families are waiting in groups to meet you.

If your name begins with the letter A to F, your host family will be waiting for you in this hall. At the end of meeting, you should wait behind in here. Now, for those of you whose names begin with G to L, you should go downstairs to the dining room. When you get there, go to the far end of room by the drinks machine. That’s important as people whose names begin with a letter from M to R should go downstairs and wait at the opposite end of the dining room near the doors into the garden. And the final group, those with names from S to Z, must go out of this hall, past the office to the car park-out to where the cars are parked by the main gate and you families will be waiting there.

第三节(25分)

Dear Wang Fang ,

I hear that you are a little worried about your lessons since you have been ill for nearly two weeks. So I’m writing to give you some advice.

First of all, you needn’t be too worried. You are always among the top students in our class, so it won’t matter much even if you have been absent for so long. Second, I’ll help as soon as you come back to class. Meanwhile you can study by yourself if possible. For example, you can teach yourself some subjects that are easy to understand when you feel better, such as history, geography. Then it will be much easier to catch up with others.

I do hope you can recover soon and then we can study together.

                          Yours truly,

Li Hua
