Mr. Turner was a fat and short man. He was about forty but wasn’t yet married. He worked in a middle school. There he taught math. He was kind to his students and could make his classes interesting. So all his students liked him.
One day Mr. Turner received a letter. He was told that his parents would arrive in the capital and that they asked him to meet them at the railway station the next morning. He was very happy because he hadn’t seen them for three years.
That afternoon, when Mr. Turner was taking his class, he wrote on the blackboard, “Mr. Turner won’t be able to meet his classes tomorrow morning.”
But before long he heard his students laughing. He felt strange and found someone had rubbed out (擦掉) a “c” from the word “classes” and the sentence became, “Mr. Turner won’t be able to meet his lasses (lovers) tomorrow morning.”
Mr. Turner also laughed. Then he rubbed out an “l” from the word “lasses”. The sentence now became, “Mr. Turner won’t be able to meet his asses (傻瓜) tomorrow morning.”
All the students laughed even more loudly.
