Public Transport in London in the year 2012
A detailed plan which will ensure that the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games are well connected was revealed on Monday by the Olympic Delivery Authority.
Travel to the Games by public transport
The heart of the plan is the goal of encouraging 7.9 million spectators who are expected to attend the various events to travel to the Games using public transport, or by walking or cycling.
The report also highlights that existing transport services will be improved in order to meet the extra demand by 2010.In addition, strict parking controls will be carried out during the Games to minimize car use.
The mayor of London, Ken Livingstone said, “The Olympic transport plan is central to the success of the 2012 Games.”
With more than 17 billion pounds being spent in improving London’s transportation system over the next five years, the 2012 Games is set to deliver a lasting legacy for all Londoners and improve the quality of life in some of the poorest areas of the city.
The plan is now going out for consultation before it is shaped into the first full plan, due to be published in the summer of 2007.
Transport services to be put in place for the Games:
●One train will serve the Olympic Park every 15 seconds.
●The Javelin train will take spectators from central London to Stratford International Station in the Olympic Park in just seven minutes.
●An Olympic Route Network of major roads will transport the athletes and other members of the Olympic family to ensure that they get to their venues(the place for a match)on time.
●Transport plans will be sustainable with the ongoing changing of the bus, train and taxi fleets ensuring that London’s transport is at the forefront of technology.
